Quench is 1 Thessalonians v. 19 · strive against is Stephen's ye do always resist the Holy Ghost, Acts vii. 51 · grieve is Ephesians iv. 30 · do despite is Hebrews x. 29, hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace. A reader with only the English will hear a rhetorical heap where the plate has four distinct scriptural offences, gathered from four books and set in ascending order of gravity.
