1OF THE THIRD DAY.

2O GOD my God, my God,

3early will I seek thee.i

4Blessed art thou, O Lord,

5who didst gather the water into the sea,

6who didst make the dry land to appear,ii

7who didst bring forth the buddings

8of herbs and trees

9that bear fruit.

11Lakes, rivers, springs,

12Earth, mainland, islands,

13mountains, hills, ravines,

14tilth, meadows, groves,

15the green things,

16bread,

17grass,

18herbs and flowers for { food, / delight, / healing, }

19the fruit-bearing trees,

20fruits { wine, / oil, / spices; }

21for matter,

1The things under the earth, | stones,

2| metals, and things metallic,

3| coals,

4blood and fire, and vapour of smoke.i

5Who can understand his errors?

6cleanse thou me from secret faults,ii

7And spare thy servant from strange sins,

8that they may not have dominion over me.

9For thy name's sake,

10be merciful unto my sin,

11for it is great.iii

12Mine iniquities have taken hold upon me,

13so that I am not able to look up;

14they are more than the hairs of mine head,

15and my heart faileth me.iv

16Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me:

17O Lord, make haste to help me.

18Shew thy marvellous lovingkindnesses upon me,

19O thou that savest them which put their trust in thee,v

20I said, Lord, be merciful unto me:

21heal my soul, for I have sinned against thee.vi

22I have sinned,

23but I turn in shame,

24and turn away from my evil ways,

25and turn again unto mine own heart,

26and with my whole heart I turn again unto thee;

27and I seek thy face,

28and beseech thee, saying,

29I have sinned, I have done iniquity, I have done wickedly,

1I know, O Lord, the plague of mine own heart,

2And behold, I turn unto thee with my whole heart,

3and with all my strength.

4And now thou, O Lord, from thy dwelling-place,

5and from the throne of the glory of thy kingdom in the heavens,

6hearken now unto the prayer,

7and unto the supplication of thy servant;i

8and be gracious unto thy servant,

9and heal his soul.ii

10O God, be merciful to me a sinner,iii

11be merciful, I pray thee, to me the chief of sinners.iv

12Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,

13and am no more worthy to be called thy son:

14make me as one of thy hired servants;v

15make me but one, yea even the last,

16or the least among them all.

17What profit is there in my blood,

18when I go down to corruption?

19shall the dust give thanks unto thee?

20or shall it declare thy truth?

21Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me:

22Lord, be thou my helper.

23Turn my mourning

24into joy for me;vi

26Fault, || clearing of self,

27Guilt, offence, || indignation,

28Sin, | [into] | fear,

29Transgression, || vehement desire,

30Unrighteousness, || zeal,

5Lordship;

8descent, | resurrection, | ascent,

9session, | return, | judgment;

10Breath and holiness,

17Be thou my hope,

18O thou the hope of all the ends of the earth,

20The Lord keep me,

21the Lord is my shade upon my right hand.

22The Lord keep me from all evil,i

23the Lord keep my soul.

24The Lord keep my going out,

25and my coming in,

26from this time forth,

27and even for evermore.

28O Lord, thou knowest, and canst, and willest

1the good of my soul,

2O wretched man that I am,i

3I neither know, nor am able, nor (as I ought)

4do I will it.

5Thou, O Lord, I beseech thee,

6in thine unspeakable tender love,

7so order concerning me,

8and so dispose,

9according as thou knowest to be pleasing unto thee,
