5Domine, paratum est cor meum:

7Sed, Domine, metuo ne meum non sit;
8Cupio certe, et doleo si minus.
9Utinam esset paratum!hei mihi, quod non est!
10Domine, dispono me, et præparo.
11Adjuva dispositionem, et præparationem meam supple.
12Ponam peccata mea coram me,
13Ut non sint coram Te.
14Ante Concionem Cautela cum Precatione

16Prædicator laboret, ut libenter, ut intelligenter, et obe-
17dienter audiatur.Et hoc se posse magis pietate
18orationum, quam orationis facultate, non dubitet.
19Orando pro se, ac illis quos est allocuturus, sit prius
20orator, quam doctor; et devote accedens, priusquam
21exserat proferentem linguam ad Deum, elevet animam

4A Preparatory Prayer.
5Lord, my heart is ready:
6(so saith the Psalmist,Psal. cviii. 1.)
7But, Lord, I fear that mine is not;
8Desire it I surely do, and grieve if it be less.
9Would God it were ready!woe is me, that it is not!
10Lord, I dispose myself, and prepare.
11Help my disposing, and supply my preparation.
12I will set my sins before me,
13That they be not before thee.

16Let the preacher labour to be heard willingly, understandingly, and obediently. And let him not doubt that he can do this more by the piety of his prayers than by any faculty of speech. Praying for himself and for those he is to speak to, let him be one that prays before he is one that teaches; and drawing near devoutly, before ever he puts forth the tongue that is to utter, let him lift up his thirsting soul to God; that he may pour out what he has there drunk in, and shed forth what has filled him.
17Therefore I cease not to ask of our true Lord and Master that he would vouchsafe to teach me those things — whether by the words of his Scriptures, or by the conversation of the brethren, or by
