1OF THE SEVENTH DAY.

2LORD, have mercy upon us,

3for in thee have we trusted.

4Be thou our arm in the morning,

5and our salvation in the time of trouble.i

6Blessed art thou, O Lord,

7who didst rest on the seventh day

8from all thy works,

9and didst bless,

10and didst hallow

11it.ii

12The things that concern the Sabbath,

13concerning the rest that is our recompense;

14concerning the dying of Christ,

15and the ceasing from sins;

16concerning them that have fallen asleep before us.

17I am ashamed and confounded, O my God,

18to lift up my face unto thee;

19for mine iniquities are increased

20over my head,

21and my trespasses are grown up

22unto the heavens.

23From the days of my youth

24am I in great trespass,

25unto this day,

1and there is no standing before thee,

2because of this.i

3I have sinned above the number of the sand of the sea,

4my transgressions are multiplied,

5and I am not worthy to look up, and

6to behold the height of heaven,

7for the multitude of mine iniquities,

8and I have no relief,

9because I have provoked thy wrath,

10and done that which is evil before thee,

11not doing thy will,

12not keeping thy commandments.

13And now I bow the knee of my heart,

14beseeching of thee thy goodness.

15I have sinned, O Lord, I have sinned,

16and I acknowledge mine iniquities,

17but I ask, beseeching thee,

18forgive me, O Lord, forgive me.

19And destroy me not with mine iniquities,

20neither, being angry for ever,

21reserve thou evil for me;

22neither condemn me

23into the lower parts of the earth.

24For thou art God, the God of them that repent,

25and in me thou wilt show forth all thy goodness,

26for thou wilt save me, unworthy as I am,

27according to thy great mercy,

28and I will praise thee for ever.

1Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean,

2Lord, speak the word only, and I shall be healed.i

4Carest thou not that we perish?iii

5Say unto me, Be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee.iv

14Say unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee.xi

15How long, O Lord, wilt thou be angry for ever?

16shall thy jealousy burn like fire?

17Remember not against us our former iniquities;

18let thy tender mercies speedily

19prevent us, O Lord,

20for we are brought very low.

21Help us, O God of our salvation,

22for the glory of thy name;

23O Lord, deliver us,

24and be merciful unto our sins,

25for thy name's sake.

26All my {

27failings, | debts,

28shortcomings, | sins,

29slips, | faults,

30stumblings, | ignorances,

31trespasses, | iniquities,

1offences, | impieties,

2transgressions, | wrongs,

3| pollutions.

4The debt,

5forgive, | pardon,

6remit, | absolve,

7be merciful, | spare,

8impute not, | lay not to my charge.

9| remember not,

10The defilement,

11pass over, | pass by,

12overlook, | disregard,

13cover, | do away,

14blot out, | cleanse.

15The brokenness,

16release, | heal, | save from,

17take away, | bear away, | remove,

18abolish, | annul, | scatter.

19Let them not be found.Let them not be.

20To supply

21in thy {

22faith | virtue,

23virtue | knowledge,

24knowledge | temperance,

25temperance | patience,

26patience | godliness,

27godliness | brotherly kindness,

28brotherly kindness | charity.

29And let me not fall into forgetfulness of the cleansing of my old

30sins, but give diligence to make my calling and

31election sure by good works.

1I BELIEVE in thee the Father,

2Behold now, if thou be a Father, and we sons,

3like as a father pitieth his sons,

4be thou tenderly compassionate toward us, O Lord.i

5I believe in thee the Lord,

6Behold now, if thou be Lord, and we servants,

7our eyes are unto thee our Lord,

8until thou have mercy upon us.ii

9I believe that though we be neither sons, nor servants,

10but dogs only,

11yet it is lawful for us to eat of the crumbs which fall from

12thy table.iii

13I believe that Christ is the Lamb of God,

14O Lamb of God that takest away the sins of the world,iv

15take away mine also.

16I believe that Jesus Christ came into

17the world to save sinners;v

18thou who camest to save sinners,

19save me also, of sinners

20the first and the greatest.

21I believe that Christ came to save that which was lost;

22thou who camest to save that which was lost,vi

23suffer not, O Lord, that to perish which thou hast saved.

24I believe that the Spirit is the Lord and giver of life;

25who gavest me a living soul,vii

26grant that I take not in vain

27my soul.

28I believe that the Spirit, in his holy things,

29imparteth grace,

30grant me not to receive that grace

1in vain of them, neither the hope ofi

2his holy things.

3I believe that the Spirit maketh intercession for us

4with groanings which cannot be uttered.ii

7grant me to partake, O Lord.

8Our fathers hoped in thee,

9they hoped, and thou didst deliver them.

10They cried unto thee, and were delivered,

11they hoped in thee, and

12were not confounded;iii

13As our fathers in the generations of old,

14so deliver us also, O Lord,

15who hope in thee.

16O HEAVENLY King,

17stablish our faithful kings,

18confirm the faith,

19pacify the nations,

20give peace unto the world,

21this holy house

22keep thou in safety.

23And receive us in the orthodox faith

24and in repentance,

25as thou art good and the lover of mankind.

26Let the power of the Father shepherd me,

27let the wisdom of the Son enlighten me,

28let the working of the Spirit quicken me.

1Guard the soul,

2stablish the body,

3lift up the senses,

4order the conversation,

5frame the manners,

6bless the doings,

7perfect the prayers,

8inspire holy meditations,

9forgive the things done aforetime,

10amend the things present,

11prevent the things to come.

12Unto him that is able to do above all, exceeding abundantly above that which

13we ask, or think, according to the power that worketh in

14us,

15unto him be glory

16in the Church in Christ,

17throughout all generations

18of the age of ages,

21the parish committed to my charge, of St Giles,

5the kinsfolk,

6them that show mercy,

12my soul, and my body,

22kinsfolk,

26I commend unto thee, O Lord,

27my endeavours,

28my occasions,

1my purposes,

2my undertakings,

3my going out, and my coming in,

4my sitting down, and my rising up.

5Praise waiteth for thee, O God,

6and unto thee shall the vow be performed.i

7Worthy art thou, O Lord, our God, the Holy One,

8to receive glory and honour,

10O thou that hearest prayer,

11unto thee shall all flesh come,

12this soul also shall come;iii

13But the words of the wicked have prevailed against me,

14as for my transgressions,

15thou shalt purge them away.

16That I may come to give thanks,

17with all thy works,

18and with thy saints

21and my mouth shall show forth

23My soul praiseth the Lord,

24for that he hath done good

25unto all the creation,

27For that thou hast dealt mercifully with me,

2the things of this life,

3concerning the gifts { of grace,

4of nature,

5of the world.

6Concerning all things

7wherein I have fared well,

8wherein I have prospered { heretofore,

9now;

10concerning whatsoever good I have ever done.

11health,

12good report,

13contentment,

14safety,

15liberty,

16quietness.

17Thou hast not cut off, as a weaver, my life,

18From day even unto night thou preservest me.i

19Thou hast granted me life and breath

20until this hour,

21from my childhood, from my youth, and until now,

22even unto old age.ii

23Thou settest my soul in life,

24and sufferest not my foot to slip.iii

25Thou who hast delivered me from dangers, sicknesses,

26poverty, bondage, public

27shame, and evil mischances.

28Thou who hast not given me over to perish with

29my sins,

1altogether awaiting my

2conversion;

3having left in me

4a turning unto the heart,

5a remembrance of the last things,

6shame, dread, a certain sorrow,

7concerning the sins that I have committed,

8more and greater, greater and more,

9more and more, O Lord;

10having granted me good hopes

11concerning the forgiveness of them,

12through repentance and the works thereof,

13by the power of the thrice-holy

14keys, and of the mysteries

15that are in thy Church.

16That day by day,

17for these thy benefits toward me

18that I have called to mind,

19and for other very many that are forgotten,

20by reason of their multitude,

21and by reason of my forgetfulness,

22both those wrought toward me willing, knowing, asking,

23and those toward me not asking, not knowing, unwilling,

24done,

25I confess, and give thanks unto thee,

26I bless and praise thee, as is meet, and daily,

27and I pray with my whole soul,

28And with my whole mind I pray.

3for all thy divine perfections

4in themselves;

5for thine unspeakable and unimaginable goodness,

6and thy mercy toward sinners,

11for this, and for all the rest,

12glory and praise and blessing and thanksgiving,

13with the voices and harmony of voices

14of Angels and of men,

15and of all thy saints in heaven,

16and of all thy creation, whether in heaven,

17or on earth,

18And under their feet

19I, the unworthy and wretched sinner,

20thy lowly creature,

21both now in this day and hour,

22and daily unto my last breath,

23and unto the end of the world,
