THE MORNING HYMN.*
GLORY be to God on high,
and on earth peace,
good will among men.
We praise thee,
we bless thee,
we worship thee,
we glorify thee,
we give thanks to thee,
for thy great glory,
O Lord, heavenly King,
O God the Father Almighty,
O Lord, the only-begotten Son,
Jesu Christ,
and O Holy Ghost.
O Lord God,
the Lamb of God,
the Son of the Father,
Thou that takest away the sins of the world,
have mercy upon us.
Thou that takest away the sins of the world,
receive our prayer.
Thou that sittest at the right hand of the Father,
have mercy upon us.
* This is perhaps that Hymn which C. Pliny makes mention of, in the
Epistle xxvii. of book x., in these words: "That the Christians were wont on
a set day to meet before daylight, and to sing a Hymn to Christ as unto God,
by turns among themselves."
